Taking the High Ground by Amy Alessio

I had actually forgotten to show this cover off when I had completed it, but it turns out, it had to be modified before going to press, so it worked out. :D

Prepping for the cover creation of Taking the High Ground, by Amy Alessio, I couldn't get one of my first experiences with book cover art out of my head ... The old Nancy Drew books.

And no, I'm not that old! lol Someone had bought the entire series for me in hard cover when I was about seven or eight, I am assuming acquired at an estate or yard sale because they were old when I got them. That set now, on Amazon, is almost $200. I want it! But until then, I channeled my fond memories of the style and came up with a new look for my folio. Do you see it?

Intro from the book ...

The Beginning

Having a cop for an uncle was like having a Big Brother in the 1984 sense; he was always watching. Troy called the house this morning to ask Mom if I'd written everything down for the police report. I knew if I didn't get something down soon he'd come over here to "help." It was hard to know where to start. I never thought I would have to explain how I helped catch a murderer or how I almost got killed myself.

Be sure to visit the Publisher's website, too:

Onto wrapping up the next book cover :D

'Athena's Heroes: Like Father, Like Son' ~ Cover art, series logo, and design ...

It took awhile for me to come up with the right logo for Athena's Heroes, the series title accompanying the design for book one, Like Father, Like Son, but both the author and I are tickled with the result.

It's simple, but it embodies the series as whole. Turned out I was overthinking it, lol.

Like Father, Like Son, the first book in the Athena’s Heroes series, tells the tale of a group of adventurers trying to restore the balance of the planet.

It was said, the gods brought people to the planet Aries (named after the god of war) hundreds of years ago from their favorite cities on Old Earth, and placed them in different regions.

Pulled together, the adventurers fight a tyrant who is trying to conquer the planet.

Onto wrapping up the next book cover :D

She's a 'Cloud Runner' from way back ...

Since I am trying to do better about updating my blog and social networks, so I thought I'd glance over the sparsely written posts over the last couple years, just to see if I'd forgotten to show you any works from the last year or so. Sure enough, I'd forgotten several ... lol.

Cloud Runner just came to me one night, about a year ago. I wasn't watching or reading anything particularly steampunkish or steampiratish, I just suddenly saw it in my head, and had to get it out fast (mainly because I'm always working on paid commissions, and have a hard time justifying doing a work for myself when authors are anxiously awaiting their book covers).

Let me know how you like her :D

Note to my authors: This piece is not connected with any publications, so if it just happens to fit your book, or it inspires a story within you and you want me to reserve it for your pending novel, let me know via my website's contact page.

A Wandering Warrior - The Knight - WIP

The only reason this illo, A Wandering Warrior - The Knight, qualifies as a WIP is because it's part of a book trailer containing several scenes from the book by Harry Gilleland, A Wandering Warrior.

A Wandering Warrior, an historical fiction/action–adventure novel, takes place in twelfth century England. Thomas Beaumont, a commoner, warrior and an itinerant soldier, loses his uncle in battle and his brother through the duplicity of another. He wanders over the country, using his skills to live and to search for the man who killed his brother.

His search brings him the love of a traveling young woman, but romance must wait for revenge. The twists and turns of fate challenge the warrior in many ways, often creating doubt for success. The goals at the ends of his searches hold a reader’s interest.

4RV Publishing

So far, the book is finished (and has been released, earlier than expected, obviously ... lol ... rare in the book publishing game). Half of the trailer images are finished, just two (and finishing touches of another) more to go.

If you'd like to see the maps I drew or get the progress on the illos for the book and trailer, check out the book's page on my website: http://willowraven.weebly.com/a-wandering-warrior.html
