'Poems of Universal Love' ~ cover art and design

I don't get too many poetry projects, but they are always fun when I do :D

Poems of Universal Love, by Anne Korhonen, presented me with a unique opportunity. I have never been asked to recreate our planet in the shape of a heart, before.

I knew I didn't want it to look like a flat cut/paste, so I did my best to represent it as a 3-dimensional figure.

And even though the final version doesn't show all of them, I even learned a couple new tricks, too. I'll show those in a future, tutorial post.

Here's the blurb:

Poems Of Universal Love continues with the same theme as its predecessor Rainbow Of Tones: Poems and Songs but this time the poet has taken the message even further talking mainly about positive sides of love and different forms of it: friendship, erotic love, romantic love and God's love. The poet also continues dealing with universal themes of equality, tolerance and humanity. On top of that she continues to pay homage to the influence of music in her poetry by creating her own interpretations of black poetry called spoken word which is closely related to Neo Soul music.

Poems of Universal love is scheduled for release sometime in 2015. I'll keep y'all updated.

Onto wrapping up the next book :D

Until next time ...

'Steel Your Soul' ~ cover art and design

I don't get many projects in the horror genres, but I definitely want more, so when Ryan first contacted me via Twitter, then Live Chat on my website, I jumped at the opportunity.

Given a lot of freedom with this project, the only parameters were 'demonic eyes and sharp bloody teeth, everything else black.'

Sounds easy, right?  Not as easy as one might think.

For one, ANYTHING on a flat, black ground risks making the 'seen' elements look cartooned and flat, themselves. I didn't want that. I thought to myself, "Think of a scary grin ... The Cheshire Cat! Just imagine him in Hell, lol."

Of course, I did not share this thought with the author, I just got to work on my idea.

I sent Ryan several variations, which is also not how I normally work, but most of my other projects are very detailed scenes. This one isn't. He chose the same set of eyes and teeth I liked (I didn't tell him that, either). Once he chose, I asked him to send me the blurb as I made the final touches to the art and added the design.

This is the blurb he sent me ...
"Combatants fighting in Holy Wars receive few perks. A painless and quick death is never one of them.
Vampire nuns and priests with flamethrowers are nothing new to this demon: it had recently killed more with less. It's only worry came from a missing hammer and a cowardly hunter.
And Alice is too afraid of rabbit holes to even look down one. No, she has to be dragged in by her ex-partner turned psychotic vampire.
After the blood settled its flow, the wider world stopped questioning religion..."

What are the odds?!?

Honestly, I had absolutely no idea or hint of Alice or rabbit holes when commissioned or this project. For truly!

I'm not sure when this book is being released, but I'll be sure to keep y'all updated, either here, or on the book's page on my website: http://willowraven.weebly.com/steel-your-soul.html

'The Mountain of Kept Memory' ~ Cover art and Design

I am sooo looking forward to this book hitting the shelves. Those that know how I work, I don't read the manuscripts I create covers for. I get pertinent information straight from the author.  I do, however, get a bit more of a glimpse than what's offered in the blurb. Rachel sent me an excerpt that described the spider-like figures, but I need to discover how they ambulate. I just know Rachel was vague about it on purpose, lol.

blurb:
When Erest ventures onto the forbidden mountain of the dead gods, he finds himself snared only half-willingly into the service of the last goddess in the world. The Kieba does need help in her endless work of guarding the world from plague and disaster, but does that really have to be him?

Oressa, princess of Carastind, knows what’s important in life:  avoiding her royal father and keeping track of all the secrets of his court.  But when she overhears news about imminent invasion, she is shocked to discover just what her father plans to give away in order to buy peace.

But when the invaders attempt to steal the Kieba’s power, both Trei and Oressa must decide where their loyalties actually lie, and what they are willing to risk to protect the goddess, their home, and the world.

Once I have a release date and purchase links, I'll post then to my website on the book's page:
