Joan's Elder Care Guide ~ cover art and design for Joan Y Edwards (@joanyedwards) and 4RV Publishing(@4RV)

As many of my readers know, my primary income stems from commissions from small publishers, plus indie and hybrid authors. One of those small publishers (4RV Publishing) was crazy enough to adopt me as the art director several years ago, then added VP of Operations to my resume, and now they can't get rid of me.
  =))

4RV's latest release, Joan's Elder Care Guide, happens to have a cover by yours truly. As AD, the majority of the books released pass my screen for layout, however, most of the covers or illustrations are not created by me, but by the 4RV team of artists. This particular cover is a digital compilation sketch and painting using a couple photographs of Joan's mother, making it a personal tribute for her, as well as an encouragingly informative guide and handbook. I include a b/w sketch on the title page, too. There are several charts in the appendix for the reader to utilize by filling in related information, making it a truly useful, everyday tool for everything from organizational tips to emergency needs that will slide right into a purse or overnight bag. Certainly not one of those books you half-read then sit on a shelf to collect dust. Even better, if you are like me a are hard on paperback books, 4RV is offering it in hardcover at the same time. No need to wait for the format that best suits your needs. Enough from me, though, read the blurb ...

Joan’s Elder Care Guide: Empowering You and Your Elder to Survive gives you, the caregiver, ways to meet your physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and social needs and those of your elder to promote healing, well-being, and survival. Based on the author’s research and fourteen years of experience caring for her mother, this book provides many resources to find the right place for your elder to live, explains ways to improve communication to help find solutions to problems, and gives organization ideas for medical, financial, insurance, and legal documents. It offers ways for a caregiver to get time away from caregiving responsibilities and contains information substitute caregivers must have to keep their elders safe. Along with all this, the book explains the signs of the end of life, ways to celebrate an elder’s life, and gives duties of an executor of an estate. It also includes ten useful charts to assist in assessing and recording an elder’s needs and capabilities.

Be sure to visit the 4RV Publishing website and bookstore (in the nonfiction section) for your discounted copy today. Also available on Amazon at a slightly higher retail price. (Bulk and wholesale orders must be made through 4RV directly.)

PROTECTOR OF THRISTAS cover art & design for D. Hart St. Martin (@hartstm)

The fourth book in the Lisen of Solsta series, Protector of Thristas, by D. Hart St. Martin, has a cover.

blurb:

Fifteen years after the One-Day War, Lisen, now Empir Ariannas, has developed into a just and capable leader. Together, she and Korin have created a union of two souls based on respect, commitment and love, and their family has grown. In addition to Rinli, their daughter who made her first appearance in Blooded, two more children have joined the family, completing their complement of three complicated adolescents.

Now the sixteen-year-out Rinli prepares to take on the mantle of Protector of Thristas, a title destined for her in the treaty that ended the war. The Empirs of Garla have carried this title for hundreds of years, and Lisen anticipates changes once she hands this single title on to Rinli at the girl’s investiture. But the prophesy of Mantar’s Child, upon which Lisen and Korin depended in the treaty negotiations fifteen years earlier, refuses to remain but a convenient myth, and with the advent of the fulfillment of the prophecy, an epic begins.

Although Protector of Thristas includes the familiar faces and settings of the young adult Lisen of Solsta trilogy, it begins a new adventure for an older and often wiser Lisen and her allies. Looking at their world through their matured eyes, the book takes on the heroic tragedy that the trilogy could only hint at. Return to Garla. Enter its mystical environs for a new encounter with Lisen and her world’s gender-free culture. The adventure awaits.

Keep an eye out for the release of Protector of Thristas. And while you wait for it to become available, be sure to pick up copies of Fractured: Lisen of Solsta, Tainted: Lisen of Solsta & Blooded: Lisen of Solsta.

~

D. Hart St. Martin strived to give life to a world that is entirely gender neutral. She sought to tell the story of a young woman who meets the typically male-oriented definition of a mythic hero. She imbued Lisen Holt aka Lisen of Solsta with the greatness and flaws of the archetype of the boy-man who learns his destiny is not what he envisioned. In the process, Lisen grew up to be a formidable presence, and Ms. St. Martin’s Garlan mythology benefited.

"Return to Dune Towers" writing challenge - submissions by Gary Edward Gedall (@gary_gedall)

Gary Edward Gedall, submitter for today's short for this image. Enjoy :D

Anis Fīniksa of Danlovan, returns to Dune Towers.

Only three short months separate this majestic lady, from the frightened slave girl, who barely escaped with her life.

She wears a long, draping, moon-green dress, reminiscent of her old, rough, hemp clothing, dyed to the colour of her liege. Only this creation is of Cantonian velvet, shaped by the cunning hands of the Rennet feys.

The four golden armbands, replace the brutal, bronze controllers; equipped with positioners, pleasure and pain, circuits. Those very same mechanisms which nearly drove her crazy during the first hours after her dash to freedom was discovered.

The hover-drone is her piece de resistance. They cannot fail to see her triumphant return.

Of course, they could undoubtedly incinerate her, an easy enough mark.

But she is confident enough that they won’t.

After all, they might not even recognise her for who she was.

They would be secure in their knowledge, that the slave had died, died in the empty desert. Driven insane from the torturous electronic signals that translated into the most horrendous experience of pain.

Anis Fīniksa of Danlovan, returns to Dune Towers.

Beware.
